Dr. Adelaida “Dely, Delicoy, Coco" Limcaoco passed away peacefully in her sleep on 2/26/2022. Born in Cabuyao, Laguna in the Philippines on March 15, 1933, she was the second oldest of four children, Josefa, Gliceria, and Doroteo, born to Jose and Maria (nee Baraquia) Limcaoco.
At a time when women were expected to marry and raise families at home, Adelaida went against tradition. Her independence, ambition and strength led her somewhere different. With the support of her family, Adelaida attended the University of Santo Tomas for medical school, where she met many of her lifelong friends, and traveled abroad. She was a woman ahead of her time.
Adelaida Baraquia Limcaoco met her husband, John Sprydakis Katsogridakis when she was completing her medical training in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. They had their first child, a son, Yiannis in 1968. Three years later, they relocated to New York and had their second child, a daughter, Despina, in 1971. Their marriage ended in 1975.
Adelaida B. Limcaoco was an anesthesiologist for over 40 years practicing in New York, Manila and St. Croix. She was a physician in the United States Virgin Islands for over 15 years until her retirement in 2000.
For the past 18 years, she has resided in Chicago, Illinois, where she lived with her son, daughter in law, and grandchildren. She cared for her grandchildren from infancy through young adulthood and had such great pride and love for them.
Adelaida is survived by her son, Dr. Yiannis (Irene) Katsogridakis, the Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in IL; daughter Despina (Adrian) Santiago, the New York Clinical Director of Lifestance Health in Carmel, NY. She is the beloved grandmother to Maria Elena and Yiannis Ireland Katsogridakis.
