Anastasiia Mikhieda, 87, of Yalta, Ukraine, died of acute on chronic respiratory failure on Friday, March 20th, 2026. Anastasiia was born on June 30th, 1938, in Bybnovaya Clobodka, Ukraine, to the late Mr. Grigorij and Dariya (Marchenko) Komyshny.
She grew up in the countryside alongside her three siblings, the late Ganna (Komyshnaya) Tokar, the late Varvara Komyshnaya, and her twin brother, the late Ivan Komyshny, during the difficult years following World War II. Their father, Grigorij, was killed in the war and they were raised by their mother, Dariya, from a very early age.
After finishing high school, Anastasiia moved to Yalta, Ukraine, where she met her husband, the late Peter Mikhieda. Peter and Anastasiia were married in 1964 and blessed with a daughter, Tetyana (Mikhieda) Karastoyanova in 1965. Anastasiia loved living by the Black Sea, where she found great peace and joy. She enjoyed swimming, knitting, and cooking borscht.
In 2021, her daughter Tetyana brought her to the United States, where she spent her later years surrounded by family. She attended English classes at the local college, cared for the family dog, a shih tzu named Mr. Monty, and especially enjoyed attending musical performances on Broadway. Anastasiia had a warm and loving personality. She always used affectionate and funny animal nicknames for her loved ones, bringing smiles to those around her. She was also blessed to meet her great-grandchild, Theodore Thomas Lynn, whom she loved deeply and cherished with all her heart. Anastasiia will be remembered for her strength, resilience, kindness, and deep love for her family. She will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her and will be missed by her daughter, Tetyana, son-in-law, Deyan Karastoyanov, granddaughter, Kristina (Karastoyanova) Lynn, and great grandson, Theo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and lifelong friends in Ukraine.
