Carmen Perez Obituary

Carmen Nydia Perez, age 86, of Chicago, Illinois, died on August 24, 2025.

Carmen was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1939 to her parents Luis and Herminia Perez. The family moved from Puerto Rico to New York in the late 1940’s.

As a young woman, Carmen left New York in 1988 for Chicago with her two sons, Tyrone and Gary. With her deep faith and courage, she sought a better future with more opportunities for both her and her sons. In Chicago, Carmen began working for Josè and best friend, Evelyn Rivera, Pastors of Spirit and Truth Fellowship Church, where she and her sons were warmly welcomed into the family. Carmen began working at the church and quickly was embraced by the congregants. Carmen went on to have a long career as a secretary with her last secretarial position assisting Jerome S. Lamet, Esquire.

Carmen was a creative woman, with many hobbies. As a young child, she began to play the piano. She continued to share her gift and love of music even while residing at Harmony HealthCare & Rehabilitation Center until her resolve began to wane. For many years, she enjoyed the work of Bob Ross who was an American painter and TV instructor. Through his instructional show, Carmen found her passion for painting and greatly enjoyed the peace and calm that it brought to her. She also enjoyed a variety of crafts, wreath making, and crocheting.

Carmen was preceded in death by Luis and Herminia Perez, her parents and Bob Reeves, her brother-in-law. She is survived by Tyrone and Gary Quinones, her two sons; Raquel Reeves, her sister and Carol and April Reeves her two nieces. Carmen remained deeply connected to Josè, the late Evelyn and their son, Eric (his wife, Melissa) and daughter, Jensine Rivera.
