Fredy Lopez, 64, of Chicago passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born in Guatemala on April 16, 1959. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Lopez Perez, and his parents, Ramiro Lopez Escobar and Maria Teresa Lopez Hernandez. He is survived by his children; Byron (Claudia Arenas) Lopez, Luis Lopez, Damary (Adam) Bahr, Elizabeth Lopez, Esmeralda (Miguel Montes) Lopez, and Byron-Javier Lopez as well as four grandchildren; Nicole Arenas, Alyssa Bahr, Michael Bahr, and Ryder Rene Montes. Fredy emigrated from Guatemala to the United States in the early 80s to seek a better life for himself and his young family. He married Clara in Chicago and became devoted to her and his Christian faith. Together, they raised their children according to the values of Christianity. He was a hardworking man and selflessly gave everything he could to his wife and family. Although he suffered many hardships, he always endured and his faith in God, as well as his optimistic outlook on life, were imperturbable. In the last few months of his life, he was diagnosed with cancer, which he bravely attempted to fight with the help of modern medicine. When medicine could no longer help, he wholeheartedly accepted the will of God in his life. He lived out his last days under the loving, kind, and gentle care of his devoted son, Byron-Javier. He was also under the loving care of his sisters, Estella Lopez, Yvette Rios, and Julia Lopez, and everyone else who helped as much as they could. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm at Benson Family Funeral Home at 3224 W Montrose Ave., Chicago, IL 60618.
Interment services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL.
