Gloria Talanda Obituary

Gloria TaLanda, age 83, of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully at Illinois Masonic Hospital on Sunday October 8th, 2023. Gloria was born in Tennessee in 1940. She was preceded in death by 1 older sister, 1 older brother, and 1 daughter. She is survived by 1 younger sister, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as several cousins, neices and nephews. Ms.TaLanda worked several jobs throughout her lifetime, which included driving a school bus for the Chicago Public School System (CPS). She was a very caring person, which made her an excellent employee when she worked as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). She was very active in her community and enjoyed her membership in the Edgewater Community Council. She was also a member of the League of Women Voters as well as being a member of her local Chicago Alternative Policing (CAP) neighborhood organization. Ms. TaLanda loved people and enjoyed helping others, whether it was a ride to the doctor, providing food for families, clothes for children, money or a place to stay. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ms.TaLanda enjoyed travling around the world and was an avid reader. She enjoyed all types of literature from biographies, drama, fiction, to crime and mysteries. She also enjoyed playing cards especially spades and pinochle. She loved cooking and family gatherings. She enjoyed the opera, the theater, plays, music, shopping, and puzzles of all kinds. She also enjoyed watching black and white movies and one of her favorites was The Perry Mason Show. Ms.TaLanda was diligent about making sure to keep a roof over her childrens’ head and food on the table. She believed very strongly in education making sure her children were well read, well-spoken and well educated and she also taught her children that famlies should always support one another. Ms. TaLanda accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was a young girl. She was a devout Christian who enjoyed reading her Bible and serving in the children’s ministry at church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandshildren who all were the joy of her life. But with all that love, she had no problem telling people about themselves or where they stood if they got out of line with her. The family would like to say “Thank you” to each and every one of you for your prayers, offers of encourragement and support during their time of grief and sorrow. Service for Ms. Gloria TaLanda will be held on Saturday October 28, 2023 at Benson Family Funeral Home, 3224 W. Montrose Ave. Chicago, IL 60618 1-773-478-5800. 3pm-4pm: Family viewing of the body 4pm-5pm: Public viewing of the body 5pm-9pm: Service and repass.
