Karin Fridlund, (nee Johansson), of Surrey BC, Canada, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 30, 2024. Karin was born April 23, 1926 near Gothenburg Sweden, daughter of Johannes and Ellen Johansson.
Karin was united in marriage to Holger Fridlund on October 30, 1953 in Sweden. In 1957 they immigrated to Chicago and became an active part of Philadelphia church and the Swedish community in Andersonville. In her 90s, Karin immigrated to Canada to live with her daughter, Carina.
Karin is survived by her children Carina (Del) Herman of Surrey, BC, Canada and Anita Andersson of Gothenburg, Sweden. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Herman of Copenhagen, Denmark; Eric (Ilaria) Herman of New York City; and Dennis and Goran (Karin) Svenningsson of Gothenburg, Sweden, many great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She is survived by four of her 10 siblings: Anna-Stina Carlsson; Iris Axelsson; Inga Davidson; and Bengt-Arne Johansson, all living in Sweden. Her husband Holger, preceded her in death as did her only granddaughter Annelie Friberg Svenningsson.
Karin “mormor” Fridlund was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who spent her life serving her Lord, church, family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Philadelphia Church in Chicago. Her remains will be interred at Memorial Park in Skokie Illinois, next to her husband.
