Lewis Lakin, 89, of Lake Forest IL, passed away on 3/21/24 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully.
Lewis was born on August 16th, 1934 to Tex and Goldie Lakin in Chicago. In 1959, he met Brenda nee Robbins, the love of his life, and they wed in 1960. Together they raised four children, Kenny (Cindy), Danny (Cheryl), Joanne (Shawn), and Kathy (Greg). Lewis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was known for his family vacations including skiing, boating, and fishing. You could often find him on Sunday mornings at the Pancake House enjoying his buckwheat pancakes.
Lewis grew up with his father’s business A. Lakin and Sons and started working full time with the company upon his graduation from Purdue University School of Mechanical Engineering. When his father passed away in 1980, he stepped in to keep the business running. He ran A. Lakin and Sons until his passing, employing a number of family members and growing the business over time.
Lewis enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He had a love of golf, Chicago sports, deep sea fishing, and horse racing including having a horse in the Kentucky Derby. He was an indisputable animal lover with a special interest in Bernese Mountain dogs. Above all, he loved sharing his passions with his family, exposing them to the various joys life has to offer.
Lewis was preceded in death by his brother William and his parents Nathan and Goldie. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Brenda, his children Kenny, Danny, Joanne, and Kathy, his twelve grandchildren Emily, Laura, Ashley, Ellie, Logan, Hayley, Clay, Ethan, James, Charlie & Isabel, Joseph, and his three great-grandchildren Olivia, Madelyn, and Leo.
