Manuel Hernandez Sr, age 90, died peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2025 in his home in Chicago, IL after a short battle with cancer.
Manuel was born December 5th, 1934 in Mexico City, Mexico. He was happily married to Judith Hernandez (Moreno) who was his life partner for just shy of 60 years at the time of her passing.
Manuel and Judith purchased a home in the Lake View area on the northside of Chicago in 1974. He lived there until he sold it in 2021 and moved to the Irving Park and Harlem Ave area.
Manuel is survived by his 6 children and grandchildren. Lupe Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, Norma Hernandez, Judith Hernandez (Walley), Manuel Hernandez Jr. and Sylvia Hernandez (Flores).
Grandkids, Vincent Flores, Gaby Flores, Alex Gutierrez, Kaira Hernandez and Olivia Hernandez.
Like many immigrant stories, Manuel came from Mexico city with dreams of a better life in the United States. With only a very limited grammar school education he was able to land a job at Zenith Radio and TV Corp., at their plant on 1900 W. Austin Ave in Chicago. A very head working man, he always worked two jobs. He also worked as a part time banquet waiter at all the major hotels in downtown Chicago. The Drake Hotel, Playboy Club, Conrad Hilton and Ambassador West just to name a few.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
