Shannon Rae Yaccino, 64, of Chicago, passed away after a prolonged series of illnesses on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Libertyville, Ill.
Shannon was born July 13, 1958, in Oak Park, Ill., to John James and Rhoda Mae (Kelley) Yaccino. She attended local schools in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood and Grayslake, Ill., where her family moved in 1964 and where she graduated with honors from Grayslake Community High School in 1976. Shannon studied at the College of Lake County and the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. She lived and worked in the Chicagoland area for many years before moving to Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1995. Upon returning to the Windy City in 2008, she worked for Loyola University Chicago for several years.
Shannon was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers, attending many games. She also enjoyed going to concerts and appreciated music of all kinds, especially the Grateful Dead. She loved spending time in nature and reading and playing with the many children in her life. Mostly, she loved being with her large and boisterous family where her infectious laugh was often heard above all. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Shannon was preceded in death by her beloved parents in 1977 and 1978, her stepfather, Raymond Lacroix, treasured grandparents, and her niece, Jamie Kathleen, with whom she shared a birthday.
Shannon is survived by one brother, Jason Lacroix (Amber) and five sisters, Jodi Yaccino, Kathleen Hovorka (Paul), Kerry McDonald (Kevin), Kelley Yaccino (Randall McCoach) and Nicole Whittemore (Christopher); five nephews, Ryan Hovorka (Rayna), Alexander Hovorka (Victoria), Joshua Whittemore, Owen Lacroix, and Henry Lacroix; five nieces, Samantha Hovorka, Abigail Whittemore, Rachel Whittemore, Amelia Lacroix and Katelyn Whittemore; as well as many friends, especially her best friend Melissa Wolfe and her son, Jack, who was her favorite person in the whole world.
In accordance with Shannon’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Condolences and remembrances may be left here or on her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/shannon.yaccino.
